Spot on flavours & spices | We checked out the 5 course Iftar Set Menu @Sahara grill, The Mall Jumeirah

I recently dined at the beautiful restaurant called Ayam Elezz in The Mall on Jumeriah. It was a Lebanese affair with a beautiful view. Since then I have had my eyes on the restaurant next door, that was Sahara Grill, and finally dined in here for Iftar.

The restaurant occupies quite a large area on the first floor of The Mall and has ample seating options. No matter where you choose to sit, you are bound to enjoy the beautiful sunset views of the Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. We were lucky and even chanced to witness some fireworks in the background..how spectacular!

The restaurant has been creating a lot of buzz and is even featured in the Luxury Iftar venues section on Zomato. We couldn’t wait to check it out for ourselves!

Get Set Gobble

You are served water, dates and fresh fruit bowl to help break your fast. Our server informed us that they have a set menu for Iftar and all the dishes seemed worthy of a try to us.

We began with a bowl of hot Lentil soup served with fried bread. The thing we loved most was the necessary crunch provided by that crispy bread. Along with this we were served a portion of their starters. Just the sight of succulent meat was enough to have us salivating. We had the Sahara Lamb Chops that were cooked perfectly with a marinade of their special spice rub. It was full of flavour and quite tender. The Buffalo Wings deserves a special mention as it was absolutely finger licking good. We love spicy food and the Chef made sure we were satiated in that department. The wings were fiery good and served with a sour cream dip to provide the much needed relief.

IMG_0048No sooner had we wrapped up the starters that the mains arrived on the table. We were honestly most excited when we saw the huge platter of the Sahara Flame Grilled Chicken served with a side of rice, salad, fries and coleslaw. The chicken is also rubbed with their special spice and was spot on in terms of flavour. No doubt the meat was fantastic but that coleslaw was also an absolutely mind blowing accompaniment. I wiped it clean off the plate! 😀

IMG_0049They do give tea or coffee at the end of the meal but we gave it a pass as we were full beyond compare and were saving whatever little tummy space we had for desserts. We were served Tiramisu and my partner, who has a serious weakness for it, was ecstatic as he took his first bite. It scored high in terms of flavour with just the right amount of bitterness and sweetness to it. Just writing about it is making me drool again. 😛

The restaurant certainly has a lot of bold and stand out flavours that ensure you are in for a good meal. Do visit them and tell us what you think of it!
