Trying to be Health conscious, we attended the Oil free menu launch @Govinda’s, Karama

We were recently invited by Govinda’s restaurant to come experience the launch of their new Oil free menu. As is to be expected, I was jumping with excitement cause there is nothing more tempting than to eat delicious food without the added the guilt. By eliminating the use of oil and putting some healthy practices into place, the Chef here has managed to put forward a guilt-free menu. I tried my best to poke further but the staff would not disclose their secret recipe to cooking Indian food without the use of oil.

Eating healthy should not be a misery. So the next time you are on a diet, you can head here to indulge in dishes tailor made to suit Indian taste buds without your mom’s love for ghee 😛

Get Set Gobble

The restaurant offers a pure vegetarian menu that is onion and garlic free. We started off with the Planters Punch and Coconut Breezer that were quite refreshing and presented well. Fresh and healthy, the Avocado Mexican salad and Moong sprout salad are excellent ways to adopt a healthier eating style. They are designed to be delicious and nutritious. The menu included two soups, Sweet Corn and Hot & Sour that deserve to be tried. We personally liked the former.

Dig into the Paneer lemon tikka or Kashmiri seekh kebab appetizers that taste just as good without the use of cooking oil. From Paneer broccoli lababdar to Govinda’s special tava vegetable, you can go ahead and order them with ease. They definitely help break the myth that Indian curries cannot be healthy. We paired them with tandoori roti and steamed rice.

We ended the meal with sweet treats in the form of their Rasgulla and Rabri that garnered head nods across the table. Yummy! The well though out menu ensures satisfaction.

Kindness Fridge Initiative

IMG_0822Huge credit must be given to the restaurant for starting the Kindness Fridge initiative. It is a great cause that has come to gather much appreciation in the area. The restaurant aims to provide a healthy meal and encourages patrons to participate as well. The fridge is stocked twice a day with fresh fruits and vegetables, water, juices, cooked meals and more. It is open to anyone who is unable to afford a meal and they may take as they please. Thumbs up for it!
