CityMax Hotels in Bur Dubai is quite popular for housing not one but two well known restaurants, namely Claypot serving Indian cuisine and Sizzling Wok offering an Asian meal. The restaurant offers a variety of veg and non veg Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes like dimsums, hakka noodles, satay, hot & sour gravies, Thai curry and more – sounds like a good meal right?! Read on more about our experience and what we tried here.
The restaurant has a massive seating space offering the choice of couches or tables that can accommodate small or large gatherings. Little elements like Chinese lanterns, Japanese hand fan, stone warrior statue, Chinese flags and an Aquarium fill the restaurant adorning the otherwise simple wooden interiors.
The style of Asian cooking here is very much suitable to the Indian palate thanks to the adaptation of flavours and spices by the Chef. The food is generous in portion sizes and is fit for a hearty meal with the family or business get together. Drop in here with a big appetite and you won’t be disappointed.

The meal started with a dish of Prawn crackers and Vegetarian crackers that were wiped out within minutes. Pair it with their spicy chilli sauce and you are in for a treat. We ordered their pan fried Chicken dimsums and Prawns in Black pepper sauce. The prawns were cooked perfectly but the dimsums were a bit too oily for our liking. Maybe we will try the steamed version next time. Their chilli sauce deserves a special mention as it did complete justice in adding the required amount of spice to our meal. Yummy! Their Drums of Heaven sizzler was the next thing we tried and it was delicious. What’s not to love about crispy chicken lollipops tossed in a sticky chilli garlic sauce!
If you are a seafood lover they have everything from prawns to fish to lobster on their menu. We ordered the Schezuan Fried Fish that did not disappoint us one bit. We paired it with Veg fried rice that had a good blend of sweet corn and vegetables.
You cannot have an Asian meal without Vegetable hakka noodles on the side. These reminded us of the street side preparations back in India that are quite delicious. Needless to say the quantity was quite good as well.
Next we tried the Chilli chicken dry and though it had a good flavour, we weren’t big fans of the texture of the chicken. Along with this we ordered the Sizzling Wok Special Fried Rice. One look at this bowlful of rice and we were in love with it. We were delightful that it had a generous portion of chicken, prawn and egg tossed in. Must say, simply delicious!
Though we had mostly Chinese food, we were tempted to give Thai a taste as well. Don’t we all love a good Thai Green curry with the hint of lemongrass?! We were served just that.
There was no better way to finish the Asian meal than with Fried ice cream. A big scoop of vanilla ice cream is deep fried to get a crunchy golden exterior and is topped with chocolate sauce for service.
