First things first, what exactly is the concept behind Prax’s. They serve a meal in a box where the sauce, protein, vegetables and rice or noodles are tossed together in a wok to order. Each order takes an average of 3-4 mins to be prepared. The idea here is to use fresh ingredients to create appetizing combinations.
I have always been a fan of eating noodles from a box ever since watching American sitcoms and movies. My experience was every bit exciting as I believed it would be with piping hot boxes of food jammed with delicious flavours.
They call the cuisine here Oriental Fusion and that seems fit as we saw them drawing inspiration from both Chinese and Thai flavours. One look at the menu and we knew we were in for a treat!
Get Set Gobble
The menu is fairly easy to figure. You can order from the fixed meal options or go ahead and create your own. The reason behind them consistently churning out great dish after another is a synchronized cooking process. Every thing from the quantity of the ingredients to be put in a dish to the cooking time is pre-determined. This eliminates variations between dishes and ensures you get the same flavour for the dish no matter where or when you order it. Hence you are guaranteed to get consistently delicious and thoroughly satisfying meals every time 🙂
From the starters we tried the Prawn Har Gow dimsums and Chicken Sui Mai dimsums. I think we fell in love with the chicken dimsums and had to order repeats of this (they have 3 portions per serving and we were craving a lot more :-D). What brought the dish together is the hidden gem that is their chilli sauce. With the perfect blend of chillies it help elevate the flavour of every dish throughout the meal. If I count correctly, I think we finished 6-8 portions of them 😀
Their version of Dynamite Prawns is every bit enjoyable as it is flavoursome. This dish for us was certainly a win! Next we tried the Peking Duck spring rolls and Papaya Salad. The spring rolls were stuffed sufficiently and were super crunchy. I think the freshness of the salad really blew us over. The well balanced flavour and all the crunchy textures made us wipe up the bowl in no time.
For the mains we had the Thai Green Curry Chicken. The dish for us was the complete package and we weren’t complaining about the portion sizes either. Witjh ingredients like mushrooms, eggplats, coriander and flavur packed jasmine rice, you are sure to savour this dish.
The Chilli Basil Beef is something the Chinese food lovers will adore. The spicy sauce with egg noodles made for a perfectly balanced dish. You can also take any dish here and customize it to your palette. We made an excellent choice with the Jasmine rice in Kimchi sauce. We decided to keep it vegetarian for this one and opted for cabbage, mixed peppers and babycorn. With flavoured rice and a tangy sauce, we undoubtedly relished this dish.
I don’t know what it is about being the boss of your own recipe that is thoroughly satisfying. I think the dish with our combination of ingredients turned out the best of the lot ;-P We paired the Egg noodles with Prawns in Black Pepper sauce along with babycorn, mixed peppers, broccoli and fried garlic as garnish. It was a masterpiece!
Even though we were pretty stuffed with our mains, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to indulge in something sweet. From their regular menu, we tried the Coconut & Ginger and Date & Caramel desserts. Personally I loved the latter that had a mild sweetness from the dates and the little crunchy bits on top.
We also tried two new desserts that are soon going to be a part of their regular menu. The Strawberry glaze sponge cake with tres leches was certainly a palette pleaser. With a rich cake drenched in milk, this was a My favourite had to be the Chocolate Brownie with raspberry coulis. Even though the coulis was a bit strong in flavour itself and contrasted with the cake, the rich chocolate cake was dark, creamy and spot on.
We would like to give a special mention to the manager Mr. Andre whose hospitality ensured we had a good meal. He gave us all the information to help make an informed decision about the order and helped us along the way with suggestions according to our palette. Do ask for him, not only is he knowledgeable but also quite the chatter box and will ensure you become a regular from your first visit! 🙂
