MTR, Khalid bin Al Waleed

MTR is located jut a short walk away from the Burjaman metro station. It is not a huge place but has a good seating capacity. The interiors of the place and the buzz inside would for once make you feel as if we were in the south of India. The tables are spread out across the restaurant a bit too closely but we don’t mind much.

We came here during lunch time and they have some items on the menu that I wanted to try but are available only in the evenings or on weekdays.

No sooner had we sat at the table that we were given the menu. Immediately the server made his way back to our table to take our order. It took us seconds to finalize our order and the food made its way to our table in a jiffy. This was the best part about my meal as I was super hungry and the food arrived not only fast but made fresh to order. Loved it!

Get Set Gobble:

~ Puliogree – The rice was slightly spicy and tangy. The portion was quite good and as my parents shared this, they both sighed as it filled their tummies satisfyingly.

~ Masala dosa – I loved this dosa as it was very different to what I am used t eating. The dosa was slightly thick and absolutely crispy. It was slightly buttery and was served with coconut chutney, thick sambar and a small bowl with some ghee. Personally I didn’t need the extra ghee 😛 The sambar was also different from the usual slightly light watery version we are used to eating and I loved this thick chutney type preparation. The potato masala was very tasty and had the right balance of spices. It was placed in the middle as the dosa had a layer of chutney spread inside, then folded into a triangular shape and served. MUST ORDER

~ Poori – The pooris were really huge and almost as big as bhaturas. They were  super crispy. It came with an aloo sabji (sagu) and coconut chutney. It was quite tasty. I think it could do better with a little more seasoning though.

~ Rice idli – The idlis too were very different from their usual round shapes as they were more squarish. They weren’t as soft or fresh to taste though.

Go for:

It wasn’t a big pinch on the pocket. Super quick service. Basic south Indian fare. Feel of South India in Dubai.
